Lack of cleanliness and poor maintenance of the door seal can lead to leakage levels to be in excess of the 5mW.cm2 (BS EN 60335-2-90:1998.) recommended limit. Testing of the equipment involves the test engineer measuring the radiation levels around the microwave to ensure that the leakage level is not above the maximum permitted level. P & R Services carry this test out both as a separate test or in conjunction with a PAT test. We can also measure the output power of the microwave to ensure food will be thoroughly cooked.

Microwave Leakage Tests

Normal operation test - this test is carried out with all fittings in place

Enclosure test - this test is carried out with all the shelves / fittings removed which are normally removed without the use of tools

Door opening sequence test - the normal operation test is repeated with the appliance door being operated through the normal door opening sequence looking for the point at which the interlock switches the appliance off.

Door seal foreign matter test - the door seal is checked for foreign bodies and damage

Door seal continuity test - the normal operation test is repeated with a minute gap created in the door closure
